Picket in support of sacked migrant worker in Belfast

Date:

"The Great appear great because we are on our knees,Let Us Rise"There will be picket of Delaney’s Restaurant

19 Lombard Street

Belfast

On Thursday 6th March 2008 at 5pm to 6.30pm

The issue:

A young Slovakian girl was sacked on the spot from Delaney’s for asking why she had to take her jumper off at work on a cold January day. Delaney’s owners refuse to meet with the young worker or with her trade union representatives to justify the dismissal.

It is unacceptable in this day and age that employers can still mistreat workers in this way.

The Irish Congress of Trade Unions will expose and challenge the mistreatment of workers and in particular migrant workers who are amongst the most vulnerable in our society.

We call on Delaney’s to:-

· immediately reinstate the young worker,

· reimburse her for loss of earnings,

· pay her for her outstanding holiday entitlement,

· treat all workers fairly.

The picket is being organised B&DTUC(Belfast Trades Council) and ICTU.

Please come along and spread the word.
