Galway Meeting - Organising For Anarchism In Ireland

Anarchism is about building a society with maximum freedom and maximum equality. However, to achieve this we must first of all destroy capitalism. How can we achieve this aim and how can we do it sooner rather than later? Anarchist ideas link a vision of a new world with the practical methods of getting there - through direct action and solidarity. Come along to the talk. All very welcome!

Dublin protest to save life of former Black Panther

Join the protest in Dublin on Saturday April 19th
2pm, Ballsbridge.

Journalist and former Black Panther, Mumia Abu-Jamal, still faces execution by the US state. Last month the Appeal Court in Philadelphia ruled against a new trial. They have called for a new sentencing hearing, which will result in either an execution or life in prison without parole.

This man has been on death row since 1982. It is widely believed that he was railroaded to jail because of his radical views and personal history. Among those who have taken up his case are:
The National Union of Journalists, the Graphical, Paper & Media Union, International Organisation of Journalists, Nelson Mandela, Salman Rushdie, Rage Against the Machine, Christy Moore, Whoopi Goldberg, Proinsias DeRossa MEP,, Joe Higgins (Socialist Party), Workers Solidarity Movement and the Connolly Youth Movement.

Protests in Ireland and around the world can have an effect. In 1995 a wave of international protest prevented Mumia's execution, even after a date had been set.

Belfast Airport Workers Suspend Hunger Strike outside Union offices

Former airport workers, Gordon McNeill, Madan Gupta and Chris Bowyer suspend their hunger strike after the Unite guarantees that their demands will be met. Despite refusing to speak to the strikers face to face and embarking on a deliberate scaremongering campaign of disinformation to undermine the strike (see http://www.indymedia.ie/article/87081), trade union officials from Unite at HQ at Transport House in Belfast have finally caved into the demands of the striking Airport workers.

Grassroots Gathering Fundraiser

Thursday 24th April 8pm Lower Deck, Dublin

The Grassroots Gatherings are open get-togethers for people who want to transform Irish society and the world in radical ways – 'grassroots' ways, in their focus on real democracy, and bottom-up methods. Reclaiming the streets, building social centres, resisting war, environmental destruction and EU neoliberalism, since 2001 the network around the Grassroots Gatherings has taken part in the global uprising against an equally global capitalism gone out of control. Vote No to the Lisbon Treaty - WSM Leaflet

Lisbon - So What’s It All About Then?

Over recent months, there’s been endless talk about the Lisbon Treaty. Most political parties advise us that we’ll be embarrassed and economically ruined if we don’t vote ‘Yes’. Groups advocating a ‘No’ vote tell us that we will lose our democracy and sovereignty if we do vote ‘Yes’.
