10 Days of Abortion Rights Action

Date:

Abortion Rights Campaign announced 10 days of action demanding the government bring in X Case legislation before the Dáil is out for Summer.  During this 10 day period, thousands of postcards will be distributed physically and online around the country which the public will be urged to sign and return to their government representatives at Dáil Éireann. The message on the postcards will call for legislation in line with the 1992 Supreme Court Ruling on the X Case and make provisions for abortion access in Ireland for those whose lives are threatened by suicide.

These postcards will be distributed from street stalls and at a number of actions and events as part of a 10 day programme supporting abortion rights. You are invited to host your own street stall or event and feature it in a national programme – for more info, please scroll to the bottom.

Image and Language: Reclaiming Life Panel Discussion and Workshop
6.30-8pm 1st March 2013
Copper House Gallery, Stephens Lane, Dublin 8
For decades now the pro-life movement have mis-appropriated images and language related to reproduction in Ireland to further the ideology of a conservative establishment. This panel discussion will explore the impact of this practice on culture in Ireland. Panelists will present projects of reclamation through both artistic and feminist initiatives since the 1970’s through publishing houses and creative interventions.

The audience is invited to contribute through a workshop activity that will examine the potential for present day usage of images and language reflective of the shift in attitudes towards gender, fertility, reproduction and bodily
integrity.
