Independent Workers Union hold successful benefit in Belfast

Date:

Up to 100 people attended a benefit organised by the Independent Workers Union in Belfast last Thursday. Members and supporters listened to a passionate speech given by IWU organiser Tommy McKearney at the Na Croisbhealai workers café on the need to organise in our workplaces’ and build an alternative to the rotten neo-liberal model being imposed on us. Tommy gave a similar talk at the workers co-operative in Octoberand can be viewed here.

Music was provided by a range of gifted artists and bands from Seán Mac Lochlainn to Ciaran Murphy with his songs such as ‘They’ll always be the RUC to me’ to ‘the land of mercs and dollars’.

WSM members are involved in the IWU in Ireland, both North and South. The Union is a radical grassroots initiative controlled and run by the rank and file which is opposed to social partnership with the bosses and government.
