Dublin march and Protest Against SOPA and ACTA - Sat 4th Feb

Date:

On Saturday the 4th of February, there is a protest against SOPA (Stop Online Piracy Act) and ACTA (Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement) legislation being implemented. People will meet at 1:00pm at the Gardens of Remembrance, Parnell Square, Dublin.

Both pieces of legislation are highly controversial and authoritarian in nature, and if implemented successfully, will have devastating effects on the Internet as we know it.

Corporate superpowers and rich governments have joined forces to push through this legislation, giving the hundreds of millions of internet users around the world absolutely no say in the matter.

In the name of copyright protection, our every move online could become monitored. Forget about streaming music, downloading films or watching videos on youtube. If this legislation is pushed through successfully there will be hefty fines, perhaps even jail sentences, for sharing anything that is copyrighted.

We oppose our lives being governed by a powerful minority, we don’t want to be told what information we can share or receive. We believe in freedom, and we will resist any attempt for our freedom to be governed. Come out and protest on Saturday if you want resist this vicious attack on the Internet as we know it.
