More Arrests of Water Charge Campaigners in Dun Laoghaire

Date:

There were more arrests of water charge campaigners in Dun Laoghaire yesterday (19 May) and two of the four arrested are up in court around now.

According to Dún Laoghaire's Not Paying
"Yesterday was the second day in a row of heavy-handed policing of protests against meter installation in the Dun Laoghaire area with 4 arrests. 8 people were arrested on Monday evening.
Peaceful direct action protests aimed at delaying and preventing meter installation have been taking place all across the greater Dun Laoghaire area since the middle of January. Many, many communities have successfully resisted the installation of meters.

In the last couple of days, gardai seem to have taken a tactical and political decision to try to intimidate the protests and protesters off the streets.
This needs 2 responses.
1. All those arrested must get our full support
2. We need to increase the numbers at the meter protests. Even if you can only come out for a short time your support is invaluable. Keep an eye on all the local community anti water charge pages to find out where protests are taking place.

Don't wait for the installers to come to your area, give your support in neighbouring areas and support will come back to your area if needed. And keep an eye out for meter installation crews. If you spot them anywhere ring the Community Groups helpline 0894807634 and we will do our best to get people along to help you organise resistance.

They cannot arrest us all.
They will not break our spirit because United we are Strong."
