Real Democracy Now assemblies in Ireland this Sunday

Date:

This weekend sees simultaneous protests across Europe emerging out of the square occupations that have taken place in dozens of cities across the Spanish state.  As part of this growing European movement assemblies will be taking part in Dublin, Cork, Limerick and Galway.

As the movement grew out of Spain we reported on it in the article "Peripherals Revolt: Spanish Square Occupation Movement Challenges Austerity and Worthless Election" - The movement consists mainly of young people, both students and unemployed or precarious young workers calling themselves by names such as Juventud Sin Futuro (Youth Without Future) and #DemocraciaRealYa (Real Democracy Now!). Bypassing existing organisations, whether political parties or trade unions, the participants have organised themselves via Facebook and Twitter, in the manner of the Tunisian and Egyptian activists of the Arab Spring.

This is the statement issued by the organisers in Ireland

WE CALL FOR REAL DEMOCRACY NOW! We are not a commodity lying in the hands of politicians and bankers. We blame the economic and political forces for our bad situation and demand the necessary change of course.

Acampada groups and some assemblies in Real democracy Now Spain are calling for a pan-European demonstration to say NO TO THE EURO PACT.

People in Ireland should be also there! We should be there!. The reasons:

The EURO PACT: New attack on democracy ONCE AGAIN.

ONCE AGAIN, the EU leaders endorse a policy misleading the public to the benefit of large financial corporations, instead of defending the citizens.

On 27th June, all European governments, including that of Spain, will sign in Brussels a major socioeconomic daylight robbery of an international scope: the so-called Euro Pact, by which the politicians of the European Union agree to legislate the orders of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), European Central Bank (ECB) and the World Bank (WB).

Failure to comply with these orders means, the rating agencies that have led Greece, Ireland and Portugal to the ruins (Moody's, Standard & Poor's, and Fitch) will resume their attacks.

We call on all citizens, under the motto "Real Democracy NOW!" inspired by and supporting the Spanish "Democracia Real Ya!".

Take the streets to protest. Join us, no matter what political views you have, to make all the people heard as a single voice.

I am outraged.
I think I can change it.
I think I can help.
I know that together we can.
